Political And Civil Society Groups Agreed On Interim Government In Mali
Three weeks after the military coup in Mali, West Africa, talks about an interim political solution have yielded results. Around 500 representatives from political and civil society groups agreed on plans for a 25-member interim government that would lead the broken state out of the crisis over the next 18 months and prepare new elections in Mali.
Interim head of state is determined by the military
According to the plan, the president of the transitional government and his deputy will be selected by a body that the military junta may appoint. When this should happen remained open even after the negotiations lasting several days. A transition council with 121 participants from different social groups in the country is also planned. It was also agreed that after the 18 months, neither the interim head of state nor his deputy may be elected to public office.
