Postal Service Bill Has Passed in the US House of Representatives

Postal Service bill passed by the US House of Representatives. The bill, which was approved by the majority votes of the Democrats, includes taking the necessary measures to prevent changes in the services of the Postal Service and to ensure that the votes cast by mail are delivered on time. While the debate on postal voting continues in the United States, the House of Representatives approved by a majority vote, a bill requiring all measures to be taken to ensure the timely delivery of postal votes ahead of the presidential elections on November 3. In the House of Representatives voting, the bill was approved, with 150 deputies voting no and 257 deputies, mostly Democrats, voted yes. Commenting on the purpose of the bill, Parliament Speaker, Democrat Nancy Pelosi, said, "We want to make sure that there will be no changes in the services of the Postal Service until the elections, and that all measures are taken to ensure that the postal votes are delivered and counted on time." he spoke. Within the scope of the bill accepted in this framework, it was also envisaged to allocate a resource of 25 billion dollars to the US Postal Service (USPS). Democrats state that in this way, they have taken a step to ensure that the votes of millions of Americans who will vote by mail due to the coronavirus pandemic, can be delivered to the relevant units as quickly as possible.

It is Expected that will rejected in Senate

It is expected that the bill, which was accepted in the House of Representatives with the majority votes of the Democrats, will not be accepted in the Senate controlled by the Republicans. On the other hand, US President Donald Trump also stated that he would veto this bill if a draft in this direction comes, and that the USPS does not need additional money and has already done its duty. While Donald Trump claims that postal voting procedures are vulnerable to irregularities, Democrats accuse him of "trying to prevent citizens from voting by mail during the epidemic." USPS President Louis DeJoy, who attended the House of Representatives session on Friday, reported that they had suspended the planned changes in postal services until the end of the elections on 3 November. DeJoy has announced that the working hours in their branches will not change, mail collection boxes on the streets will not be removed and they will not close any mail processing facilities. DeJoy also underlined that they made such a decision to avoid the perception that the changes they will make "have an effect on the elections".
