President Erdoğan Spoke on EU Sanctions
President Erdoğan spoke on EU sanctions. Erdoğan said, "Nothing will come out of the summit in March.”
President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan spoke about the results of the EU Leaders Summit. Erdogan said, "The summit held yesterday by the EU did not actually answer the expectations of a few countries. Because their demands were not justified."
Answering the questions of the press after the Friday prayers, President Erdoğan said the following regarding the measured sanction decisions issued at the EU summit:
"The developments in the Eastern Mediterranean, our positive attitudes towards all these, have negated what they expected. The sane countries among the European Union member countries have put positive attitudes here, and this game has been voided. There is an expectation for the negotiations at the March summit, it is impossible to reach any conclusions, because Turkey is justified. There are many rights of EU member countries should give to Turkey, like the customs exemption and visa freedom, I hope that we will complete this process in a fair way by making meetings with the leaders.
EU Measured the Sanctions
The European Union imposed against Turkey's energy exploration activities in the Eastern Mediterranean and vowed to expand its existing sanctions including asset freeze and travel ban list.
According to the news in Bloomberg, EU leaders have currently decided to work on expanding the black list which includes two Turkish Petroleum Corporation (TPAO) employees. With this decision, it was stated that more Turkish citizens and some potential companies and public institutions could be included in the sanction list.
According to the news, the leaders resisted Greece's tougher measure proposal, such as a financing ban from European institutions to Turkish companies. Instead of doing this, the European Union (EU) will decide whether to impose tougher sanctions by monitoring Turkey’s actions on the Eastern Mediterranean until March.
