President of the Chamber of Realtors: "25 Percent Cap Left Houses Empty"
Nizameddin Asa, President of Istanbul Chamber of Realtors, touched upon the increasing complaints about the recent rents. He noted that the complaints of people living in rented houses have grown and that tenants who agree on high prices cannot pay their rents.
The exorbitant price in house rents has started to victimize homeowners as well as tenants. Nizameddin Asa, President of the Istanbul Chamber of Realtors, stated that the complaints that tenants who agreed on high prices could not pay their rents have increased 2-3 times in the recent period.
Nizameddin Aşa said,
"For the last year, we have been calling on landlords to reduce rents to a more affordable price. Some opportunistic landlords are renting 2-3 times more than its value. We said and warned that this situation would eventually come to this. Now tenants who rent houses at high rents because they are forced to do so cannot pay rent. In this situation, both the tenant and the landlord are victims."
Addressing the landlords, Asa said,
"Currently, there are executions, seizures and fights. There are problems such as buying and dismantling the boiler, buying and selling furniture in furnished houses. Complaints on this issue have doubled two or three times. The reason for all these negative incidents is high rent prices. High rental prices are sweet to the landlords, but in the end, such problems are experienced."
Making explanations about the new regulation on rent increase rates, Asa said,
"Hundreds of people keep their houses empty until July 1, 2023. They are waiting for August to avoid the 25 percent rate. This rate is already not applied, and tenants are even willing to increase by 50 percent. The 25 percent limit remained symbolic. It is absolutely necessary to create new housing supply."
