Roman Abramovich, owner of English Premier League team Chelsea, announced that he has handed over the management of the club to the board of trustees of the foundation.
Abramovich, in his statement, stated that he always made decisions considering the best interests of the club and that he continued to stick to these values.
Roman Abramovich used the following statements in his statement:
"Therefore, today I entrust the management and responsibility of the club to the Chelsea foundation's board of trustees. At the moment, I believe the club are in the best position to look after the interests of the players, staff and fans."
Abramovich's decision came after calls for sanctions against him in the wake of Russia's attacks on Ukraine.
Russian billionaire Abramovich became the owner of Chelsea in 2003 by paying British businessman Ken Bates £140 million.
