Sales of 4.5 Million Roses Expected On Valentine's Day
Sales of 4.5 million roses are expected on Valentine's Day. The producers gave information about the preparations.
Ahmet Dündar, Chairman of the Board of
Ornamental Plants Producers Sub-Union (SÜSBİR), gave information about the preparation carried out within the scope of February 14, Valentine's Day. Stating that Valentine's Day on Sunday with Covid-19 restrictions, Dündar stated that on this day, florists are privileged and that the ordered flowers can be delivered to homes.
Saying that this will be good especially for florists who are experiencing difficulties during the epidemic period, Dündar explained that purchase of flowers while celebrating this meaningful day will contribute to the sector. Dündar used the following statements:
“Rose, of course, is the main flower of Valentine's Day. Demand on this day will be tried to be met with imports as it is every year. This situation is not unique to our country. The demand intensity on Valentine's Day is met with
imports even in the Netherlands.”
Expressing that they expect the increase in supply and exchange rate to be reflected in some prices on Valentine's Day, Dündar said that they think that both florists and producers will sacrifice in this regard.
Demand for Orchid and Potted Plants Has Increased in Recent Years
Reminding that about 5 million roses were imported in February 2019, Dündar continued his words as follows:
“With domestic production, Valentine's Day sales were around 6 million in 2019. Last year, 3.4 million roses were imported in February, and with domestic production, around 4.5 million roses were sold on Valentine's Day. This year, we do not anticipate an increase in demand in rose sales compared to last year due to the Covid-19 outbreak restrictions. We expect sales to be around 4.5 million roses on Valentine's Day.”
Stating that the demand for potted plants and wild flowers, as well as for roses, has intensified in recent years, Dündar explained that the increase in diversity makes it easier for citizens to choose.
