Saudi Arabia will convert an oil rig into an amusement park
Like most countries around the world, Saudi Arabia is trying to reduce its dependence on oil. Many oil rigs have reached the end of their service life, while others are even taken out of operation. However, they soon found alternative uses for one. Saudi Arabia will convert an oil rig in the Persian Gulf with an area of 150,000 square meters into an adrenaline amusement park.
Adrenaline is supposed to be the transport to the entertainment center. Visitors will be dependent on a yacht, ferry or helicopter. In the complex itself, people can expect three hotels with more than eight hundred rooms or up to eleven restaurants. They will connect dozens of bridges and stairs. The Arch Daily portal informed about it.
The area called The Rig, which can be translated as the Platform, will offer visitors, for example, water slides with wild pools or a maze with roller coasters. There will also be a ferris wheel and jet skis in the park, and those interested can also look forward to paragliding, bungee jumping or diving.
Behind the construction is the Saudi Public Investment Fund, which intends to build the site over the next few years. However, the exact date of completion or even the start of operation of this project has not yet been announced by the fund's representatives.
The main goal of the project is greater promotion of oil extraction. The fund intends to attract tourists from all over the world, but wants to target mainly the people of the Persian Gulf. The dominant traffic is to be visitors from countries such as Qatar, Oman or the United Arab Emirates. Up to 100 million people are expected to visit here every year. The project should also meet strict global environmental standards.
Saudi Arabia has long been one of the world's largest oil exporters. It is an important member of the Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries. In recent days, the country has announced massive investments in environmental protection projects. In the coming years, it wants to spend more than a billion dollars in this way.
One of the world's largest air pollutants wants to achieve carbon neutrality by 2060. However, the country does not intend to limit oil exports. By 2027, the local oil company
Aramco even wants to increase daily production from 12 to 13 billion barrels.
