Second Round of Presidential Elections Started in TRNC
Second round of Presidential elections started in
TRNC. The Turkish Cypriot people started to go to the polls from 8 am to elect the president who will serve for the next 5 years.
In the second round of the election, Ersin Tatar, the prime minister and presidential candidate of the National Unity Party (
UBP), and the president and independent presidential candidate Mustafa Akıncı will face each other.
In the first round of the election held on October 11, Tatar took 32.34 percent of the votes and Akıncı finished second with 29.80 percent.
The presidential election is in the second round, as none of the 11 candidates competing in the first round could rise above 50 percent.
199 thousand 29 registered voters will be able to perform the voting process, which continues until 6 pm, in 738 ballot boxes.
After the voting process ends and ballot boxes will be closed, the counting process will start.
This year, a total of 2 thousand 658 people assigned by the Supreme Election Board take part in the ballot boxes.
The Results Will Be Cleared At 8 Pm
Expectations are that the Supreme Election Board will announce the results by 8 pm tonight.
It was seen that the voters voted using masks and gloves within the scope of coronavirus measures.
Those working at the polls also warned voters to use disinfectants.
