Spanish Government Approved Extending The ERTE Program
On Tuesday, the Spanish government approved the conditions for extending the ERTE program to maintain employment during the new coronavirus pandemic until 31 January 2021.The Cabinet managed to reach an agreement with employers and unions.As Labor Minister Yolanda Diaz emphasized, thanking the parties again for social dialogue and concluding an agreement, the extension of the so-called exchange rate "will protect all companies and all employees" in the coming months, which can be complicated.The program was to expire at the end of September.The Spanish ERTE system allows companies to temporarily send employees home or reduce their working hours, while the government covers part of the cost of their wages.Hundreds of thousands of people will not lose their jobs and maintain at least part of their paychecks over the next few months.
