Swedish Government Returned 33 BTC To A Drug Dealer!
The Swedish government returned 33 BTC to a drug dealer. During his imprisonment, the criminal earned approximately $1.5 million.
Swedish police caught a drug dealer about 2 years ago and confiscated his 36
Bitcoins. The equivalent of this amount was 150 thousand dollars at that time.
Prosecutor Tove Kullberg, who dealt with the incident, demanded the confiscation of 36 Bitcoins in exchange for Swedish kronor, and the criminal's BTCs were passed to the Swedish authorities.
But during the time the drug dealer spent 2 years in prison, Bitcoin saw a significant price increase. Although the Swedish authorities wanted to sell the seized Bitcoins at auction, only 3 Bitcoins could provide the equivalent of 36 Bitcoins in Swedish Koruna parity 2 years ago.
Accordingly, for the amount of 150 thousand dollars, it would be enough to sell only 3 Bitcoins at the auction. The remaining 33 Bitcoins were decided to be returned to the criminal. So this drug dealer will have a small fortune when he gets out of jail.
Prosecutor Kullberg, on the other hand, made a statement on the subject, said, "The necessary lesson has been learned here. It means that the value of the seized Bitcoins should be kept as
Bitcoin. It is necessary to do this without looking at the value of Bitcoin at that time."
As it is known, in some countries, especially the USA, cryptocurrencies seized from criminals are sold by auction. On the European continent, such an auction was held for the first time in France in March.
