Taiwan Met with Chip Giants for Vaccine Supply
Taiwan met with chip giants for vaccine supply. The Taiwanese government spoke to the executives of the two chip giants about the vaccine.
Taiwan President Tsai Ing-wen met with the executives of two giant chip manufacturers in the country to obtain a
vaccine from BionTech.
Meeting with
TSMC Chairman Maark Liu and Hon Hai Precision Industry Founder Terry Gou on Friday, Tsai talked to executives to procure vaccines from BionTech. Taiwan, which could not obtain vaccines from BionTech itself or the Asian distributor Shanghai Fosun Pharmaceutyical Group for a long time, previously signed an agreement with BionTech, but the agreement was later abandoned. Taiwan Health Minister Chen Shih-chung pointed to China and stated that foreign powers interfered with the agreement.
While Taiwan did not seriously feel the effects of the coronavirus (Covid-19) epidemic for most of the past year, cases started to increase again in the last 6 weeks.
While Taiwan has only guaranteed 3 million doses from AstraZeneca so far, that's enough to vaccinate only 5 percent of its 23.5 million population.
