Turkey Federation of Shopping Centers and Retailers (TAMPF) President Ali Önder Özpamukçu recorded statements on
inflation.
Özpamukçu said, "We caught up with the pre-pandemic period in customer numbers a few months ago, and now we have started to surpass it. This is an extremely positive development; but tourism is very effective here. Especially in regions such as Istanbul and Bodrum, there is a great density and income increases. When we look at the non-food side, despite an 80 percent increase in turnover, we observe a 15 percent decrease in units.
There is an increase in turnover driven by inflation; however, there is a decrease in units. We think that the decrease in units is critical. We see that the baskets are slightly lower in the centers where domestic tourists are located, while the basket average increases where foreign customers are located."
