Taximeter Tariffs Increase in Istanbul
Increase in taximeter tariffs in
Istanbul. Istanbul taxi drivers started to adjust their taximeters today.
Taximeter tariffs were increased by 11 percent in Istanbul. Accordingly, the
taximeter will now start at 14.50 lira in Istanbul.
After the increase, taxi drivers, who wanted to have their taximeter devices adjusted according to the new tariff, formed a queue for kilometers in the Yenikapı Activity Area. The taxi drivers, who started to queue in the first hours of the morning, stated that they complained about this situation and that this application would not be useful for them, but for the owners.
Özer Şentürk, one of the taxi drivers waiting in the queue, said the following about the issue:
“Taximeter increase adjustments will be made. 11 percent increase has been applied. It was 13 liras and now it is 14.50 TL. We will get it done and have a disinfectant done. But there is a busy crowd. It is the first day but it is busy. Today is not over, other friends can come later. I do not think it will be very useful to us, it seems to be more useful to the owners.”
Bekir Serdaroğlu, one of the other taxi drivers waiting in the area, stated that this rise would be better for the owners, and used the following statements:
“The taximeters will be adjusted for wages. You see, we will not be able to finish this job today. It is said that there was an 11 percent increase. If you ask it is enough, you have to ask the citizens. It is not enough as a raise, but people have no power left. It does not help us, the owners will make a raise, and they will profit.”
