Technology companies have formed an alliance to combat climate change

The world's major technology companies are joining forces and have decided to form an alliance to accelerate the fight against climate change. The goal of the business alliance, called the Business Alliance for Scaling Climate Solutions, BASCS, should be to support companies' investment in the environment and control exactly where the money companies invest in ecology goes. The reason why technology leaders have opted for such an alliance is the growing warning that a lot of money is being invested in fighting the climate crisis, but it is still not enough to achieve zero emissions. In order to fully move away from fossil fuels by 2050, about $ 3.8 trillion a year is needed, according to CNN. "It's time to start taking some concrete action on climate change," said Patrick Flynn, head of sustainability at Salesforce, the US cloud software company. "Every government, company and individual must confront climate change and strive to create a better, sustainable future for all of us," he added. The new Climate Alliance of Large Companies is now working with the Global Environment Facility (GEF) and other organizations to hope to co-finance and conduct research to accelerate climate change. According to BASCS, the main point of cooperation will be to reduce emissions and ensure that these investments have a measurable impact. "In order to move to a carbon-free economy, the way companies operate must change dramatically," said Vijay Sudan, chief executive officer of Disney. The efforts of large American companies to fight the climate crisis follow on from the steps currently being taken by US President Joe Biden. "Biden's plan to halve emissions by 2030 cannot work without large companies taking action," said Mark Campanale, president of the Carbon Tracker think tank. "If huge companies like Google or Disney join the fight and connect with large sources of capital from Wall Street, nothing will stand in the way of a clean future and we will finally be able to move somewhere," concludes Campanale.
