Tesla's sales figures exceeded expectations. Despite the global chip crisis, the company announced that it delivered 241,300 electric vehicles in the third quarter of 2021, an increase of 73 percent compared to the same period of the previous year. This was recorded as a new record.
Analysts had estimated that Tesla would remain around 220,000.
The company produced 237,823 cars in the period ending September 30. Of that, 228,882 consisted of the more affordable models Model 3 and Y. 8 thousand 941 were Model S and X vehicles. Production increased by 15 percent compared to the previous quarter.
Tesla delivered 201,250 vehicles in the previous quarter and produced 206,421 units. In today's statement the company said, "We count a car as delivered if its delivery is complete and all paperwork is complete." Therefore, the actual figure may vary by 0.5 percent or more.
Tesla's vehicle delivery during 2020 was 499 thousand. Yet, without including the fourth quarter figures, 627 thousand units were exceeded in 2021.
