Tesla asked the Indian government to reduce tax rates for imported electric vehicles, Reuters news agency reported, citing two sources with knowledge of the matter. In response to a question on Twitter about the launch of Tesla's cars in India, Musk said that the company was keen on this. He said, “But we are hopeful that there will be at least a temporary reduction in tariffs for electric vehicles.” It is said that the government may reject Tesla's request because Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi insists on high tax rates on imported products to increase local production.
