Fully Autonomous Driving (FSD) program to a limited number of employees
According to a note published by the California Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV); Tesla Inc told a regulator in California that it would not be able to deliver fully automatic drive technology by the end of the year.
Tesla CEO Elon Musk said in January, "I am extremely confident that our vehicle will be able to drive itself with exceedingly human reliability this year." he said.
The company has offered a "beta" version of its "fully autonomous driving (FSD)" program to a limited number of employees and customers since October, while Musk has posted this feature on Twitter and shared it with millions of people.
California DMV held a conference on March 9 with Tesla representatives, including autopilot engineer CJ Moore.
In the statement made after the conference, "Elon's Tweet does not conform to engineering reality, according to CJ. Tesla is still at Level 2 right now. "
Level 2 technology refers to a semi-automatic driving system that requires supervision of a human driver.

"Tesla firmly admits that they are currently on L2," says California DMV.
"The company's misunderstanding about the limits and misuse of technology can have tragic consequences."
California Highway Patrol is investigating a Tesla vehicle crash in California. Tesla's driver died after crashing into a rolled truck on the highway near Fontana. At the time of the accident, it has not yet been announced whether the vehicle's autopilot feature was activated.
This is not the only accident involving Tesla vehicles that is under investigation. Federal highway safety regulators are investigating over 20 accidents involving Tesla vehicles.
