The European Commission has decided to extend the scope of the Temporary State Aid Framework adopted on 19 March 2020 to support the economy in the context of the coronavirus pandemic. All sections shall be extended by six months until 30 June 2021, with the exception of the section to allow recapitalization aid, which shall be extended by three months until 30 September 2021.The aim is to enable Member States to support businesses during the coronavirus crisis, especially where the need for or capability of assistance under the Temporary Framework has not yet been fully exploited. The Representation of the European Commission in the Slovak Republic informed about it on Tuesday in a press release. The amendment of the temporary framework also introduces a new measure to allow Member States to support companies that face a decrease in turnover during the eligible period of at least 30% as a result of a coronavirus pandemic compared to the same period in 2019.
This will be a contribution to the part of the fixed costs of the beneficiaries which is not covered by their income, up to a maximum of EUR 3 million per undertaking.
"The purpose of supporting these enterprises in the form of a temporary contribution to part of their costs is to avoid a deterioration in their capital, to maintain their business activities and to provide a solid basis for their recovery.
This will enable more targeted assistance to companies that demonstrably need it, "the press release states.
The Commission adopted a new temporary framework for state aid to support the economy in the context of the coronavirus on 19 March 2020, since which it has been adapted several times to the current situation.
The Temporary Framework recognizes that the entire economy of the Union is seriously disrupted. It allows Member States to use full flexibility in support of the economy under State aid rules.
