The Pandemic Has Hit Spanish Tourism Hard
The pandemic of the new coronavirus has hit Spanish tourism hard, with restaurant and hotel services.
The situation was significantly exacerbated by the second wave of the pandemic, which reduced the chances of an early recovery of the sector, which was reflected in the number of hotels offered for sale. This was pointed out by the data published by the real estate portal Idealista. According to the Idealista, the number of hotels intended for sale in the country has increased by almost a fifth since the beginning of the crisis.
According to the portal, referred to by Reuters, a total of 557 hotels were for sale in
Spain in October. This is 19 percent more than in March, when Spain was hit by the first wave of the new coronavirus pandemic and the government severely curtailed economic activity and population movements.
According to the Idealista portal in the
Balearic Islands, the number of hotels offered for sale increased the most. In October, there were 84 percent more on offer than in March. In Andalusia, the number of such hotels has increased by 45 percent.
Of the 557 hotels offered in the country for sale, 101 are in Catalonia.
As a result of the ongoing pandemic and new restrictions, the number of bookings in Spanish hotels fell by 83 percent year on year in October, and according to the latest figures from the Spanish statistical office, almost a third of hotels in the country closed last month.
