Construction of the Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline will continue in December
The construction of the German-Russian gas pipeline Nord Stream 2 should continue in December after an interruption of about 1.5 years.
Previously, a company spokesman informed the radio station NDR 1 Radio MV about it.
According to the station, the WSA Ostsee navigation office in Stralsund has asked the captains for extra caution from next Saturday due to construction south of the Adlergrund area. There lie both ends of the pipeline leading from Lubmin.
The United States wants to prevent the completion of the
Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline. In December 2019, construction suddenly stopped in front of the Danish island of Bornholm. The reason was that due to US sanctions, both Swiss ships laying the pipeline left the project.
The US Congress has previously passed the European Energy Security Act (PEESA), despite criticism from Germany and
Russia.
Up to 55 billion cubic meters (m3) of gas should be transported annually from Russia to Europe via two lines of the 1,200-kilometer-long North Stream 2 gas pipeline. The project, worth around 9.5 billion euros, is already 94 percent complete.
The US has been trying for a long time to stop the project, claiming that the pipeline will increase Europe's dependence on Russian gas too much. Critics say the US just wants to increase sales of liquefied gas to Europe.
