The US Economy Is Threatened By Coronavirus And The Inability Of Congress
The US economy is potentially threatened by a resurgence in coronavirus cases and the inability of Congress to provide additional financial assistance to individuals and businesses.
This is according to a survey by the American National Association for Business Economics (NABE), which addressed 52 forecasters last month.
Threats: Covid-19 and weak government support
According to a survey released by NABE on Monday, 55 percent of respondents consider the second wave of the COVID-19 pandemic to be the most serious threat, and 25 percent said the biggest threat is a lack of further government support for the economy.
Like many other economists, forecasters surveyed by the NABE survey estimate that America's gross domestic product in the third quarter, which ended at the end of September, strengthened by 25 percent year on year. However, this growth would follow an even sharper decline in the United States economy between April and June, when much of the economy was paralyzed by the spread of the coronavirus.
In the fourth quarter, ie during October to December, forecasters surveyed by the NABE survey expect year-on-year growth of the US economy by 4.9 percent.
The US economy will weaken this year
According to the results of the survey, the US economy should shrink by 4.3 percent this year. This would be its first full-year weakening since falling 2.5 percent in 2009.
For next year, forecasters predict the growth of the US economy by 3.6 percent.
