The US stock market strengthened, the Dow Jones set a new record
Energy companies helped the US stock market grow amid the Dow Jones industrial index to a record high. Shares of industrial and financial companies also strengthened significantly, outweighing the losses of telecommunications companies.
The market thus returned to positive territory after a slight weakening during the previous day. The modest growth of the US market occurred at a time when efforts to develop and distribute vaccines in the fight against the coronavirus pandemic are intensifying.
The S&P 500 index gained 0.1 percent and closed at 3,732.04 points. The
Dow Jones Industrial Index rose 0.2 percent to 30,409.56 points. The technology Nasdaq also improved by 0.2 percent to 12,870 points.
Shares of small businesses rose more than the rest of the market, which is considered a sign that investors more optimistic value of the economy. The Russell 2000 index of smaller companies strengthened by 1.1 percent to 1,979.99 points on Wednesday.
Before this year's closing trading day, the S&P 500 index is 15.5 percent higher than at the beginning of the year and the technology Nasdaq is 43.4 percent higher.
Asian stock markets strengthened on Thursday. The Hong Kong
Hang Seng Index gained 0.3 percent and the Chinese Shanghai Composite 1.2 percent. The Japanese stock market did not trade, and will reopen on January 4.
