TMO Will Not Have Limitations On Purchase Of Potatoes and Onions
TMO will not have limitations on purchase of potatoes and onions. All consumable products will be purchased from producers registered in the Farmer Registration System.
In a written statement made by the
Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry of Turkey, it was noted that during the
coronavirus pandemic, potato and onion consumption decreased in domestic and international markets due to the shrinkage of demand in collective consumption places such as hotels and restaurants, and the decrease in consumption caused stocks to increase and prices decreased against the producer.
In order not to adversely affect the farmer from this situation, it was stated that, with the instructions of President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, Turkish Grain Board (TMO) was charged with purchasing cooking potatoes and dried onions from producers and distributing them to the citizens in need through 81 provincial governorates. It was noted that the statements of Minister of Agriculture and Forestry Bekir Pakdemirli regarding the start of distribution of potatoes and onions before Ramadan were reflected to the public.
In the statement, which emphasized that TMO started to buy potatoes and dry onion yesterday and there is no limitation in these purchases; “All of the consumable products will be purchased from the producers registered in the Farmer Registration System (ÇKS). In order to be delivered to our 81 provinces, primarily our metropolitan cities, they will be distributed to our citizens in need through our governorships free of charge.”
