Trading Suspended All Day in Japanese Stock Market Trading in the Japanese stock market were suspended all day. While it was stated that this disruption was due to a technical reason, a timeline for when the transactions will continue was not announced. Known as the third largest stock exchange in the world, the Japanese stock exchange stopped Thursday's transactions all day for "technical reasons". Japan Exchange Group Inc. stated that while they do not give any time frame about when the transactions will continue, they will announce their plans for Friday's transactions later. 'Suspension of transactions' means that the fourth day of the quarter means that no transactions can be made regarding the purchase and sale of thousands of stocks. Previous outages affected only a small fraction of the trading day. In the statement made by the stock exchange, it was stated that there was no indication that the suspension of transactions was linked to "hacking". When Japan's Chief Cabinet Secretary, Katsunobu Kato, made the first announcement regarding the suspension of the proceedings, he considered the situation "a very unfortunate development". Toyo Securities Co. Strategist Ryuta Otsuka said, "This is a very problematic situation, when such things happen, investors' confidence in the Japanese market decreases. Later, we will see the effects of this on the Japanese stock market." In the Asian region, the Chinese market will also remain closed until October 9 as part of the 'Golden Week' holiday. Stock markets in Hong Kong, South Korea and Taiwan are also closed for the holidays.
