Third-quarter sales of Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing (
TSMC), the world's largest chip maker, broke records. The company's revenues rose to NT$ 414.7 billion ($14.8 billion) in the third quarter, close to analyst estimates.
In September, sales increased by 20 percent compared to the previous year, reaching 152.7 billion Taiwan dollars.
There was a lot of demand from most companies, including Apple, which launched the iPhone 13 series, which attracted great interest in the third quarter, a period when orders generally increased before the holiday. Despite the increase in orders, chip problems continued in this period.
Chip Crisis Threat to Tesla
Tesla Inc. CEO
Elon Musk stated that the double problem caused by the global shortage of chips and ships is the only obstacle to sustaining Tesla's sales growth above 50 percent.
Speaking at Tesla's annual shareholders meeting in Austin, Texas, Musk said, "We've had a fantastic year, record vehicle deliveries. It looks like we have a good shot at continuing that. Basically, if we can get the chip, we can do it. I hope the chip shortage will ease soon, but I'm confident we can stay above 50 percent at least for a while."
