Tu-154 Completed Its Last Planned Commercial Flight
The last Tu-154 transport aircraft, which still served in Russia, completed its last planned commercial flight.
Alrosa announced that the aircraft in question had flown from Mirny in the Republic of Yakutia to Novosibirsk in the Novosibirsk region with 140 passengers on board.
The report was delivered by Free Europe Station (RFE / RL) with reference to local sources.
The DPRK is still using the aircraft
The Tu-154 was developed by the Soviet company Tupolev and was the most widely used civilian aircraft for medium-haul flights in the former Soviet Union. There were more than a thousand in the service.
The aircraft completed its premiere flight on October 3, 1968 and was put into regular commercial service in 1972. Production of this machine ended in 2013.
The
European Union banned the Tu-154 in 2006 due to the high noise level of its engines and fuel consumption. North Korean state airline Air Koryo still has two Tu-154s that operate commercial flights.
There were no accidents
Although this aircraft has satisfactory safety records due to its intensive use in demanding conditions, it is involved in several publicized accidents.
In 2010, the Polish government special Tu-154 collapsed, killing Polish President Lech Kaczynski and many other high-ranking officials. The incident took place near the Russian city of Smolensk and died all 96 people on board.
In December 2016, the Russian military version of the Tu-154 crashed with 64 members of the Russian Army Choir Alexandrovovci. The plane crashed into the Black Sea during a trip to Syria. All 92 people on board were died.
