In December 2019, about 3 billion 664 million cubic meters of imports were carried out through pipelines and 1 billion 751 million cubic meters through liquefied natural gas plants, according to the Energy Market Regulatory Authority's "Natural Gas Market Sector Report" for December.
Thus, natural gas imports decreased by 10.5 percent in December of 2019 compared to the same month of the previous year and fell to 5 billion 416 million cubic meters.
The country with the most natural gas purchases during this period was Russia, with 1 billion 884 million cubic meters. Russia was followed by Azerbaijan with 926 million cubic meters and Iran with 852 million cubic meters. The remainder of the imports were from Algeria, Qatar, Nigeria, the United States, and Egypt.
Turkey's Natural Gas Imports Fell By 10.5 Percent
Natural gas consumption was calculated as 5 billion 197 million cubic meters, with a decrease of 6.2 percent in the said period.
Natural gas consumption declined by 11.6 percent in power plants, 1 billion 86 million cubic meters, 12.3 percent in housing, nearly 2 billion 15 million cubic meters. In December, natural gas consumption of Organized Industrial Zones increased by 11.1 percent and reached a record 348 million cubic meters.
On the other hand, the amount of natural gas stock in Turkey decreased by 2.3 percent this month and became 3 billion 95 million cubic meters.
