Union is preparing to implement a trade agreement with Britain
The European Union is preparing to implement a trade agreement with Britain from 1 January 2021.
Member States have started preparatory procedures for the implementation of a new trade agreement with the United Kingdom, three diplomatic sources have told Reuters.
Representatives of the member states at a meeting with the
European Commission, which is negotiating with Britain on behalf of the Union, were told to be ready for a meeting on Thursday if both parties reach an agreement.
"It seems that the agreement is almost in the world," said one of the diplomats, adding that it should be announced on Wednesday or Thursday.
According to him, the European Council, which represents the member states of the Union, began preparations for the approval of the so-called provisional application, ie the accelerated implementation of the agreement.
Although both sides have announced progress in the negotiations in recent days,
Britain's statements about the chances of concluding an agreement, at least before Christmas, are significantly less optimistic.
