Lufthansa and the pilots agreed not to lose their jobs by the end of March 2022
The German airline Lufthansa and the pilots' representatives have concluded an agreement that will maintain jobs at the current level until the end of March 2022, while helping to reduce costs.
This was reported by Reuters, which referred to information from the Vereinigung Cockpit pilots' union.
Like its competitors, Lufthansa is struggling with the consequences of the new
coronavirus pandemic for air transport. Restrictions on tourism to reduce the spread of the virus have forced large numbers of aircraft to be grounded by airlines and governments to ask for financial assistance. Lufthansa thus received € 9 billion in aid from the German government.
However, society needs to reduce costs. At the beginning of December, the head of Lufthansa warned that if the unions did not agree to the adjustment of working and wage conditions, the company will have to release 1,000 pilots in the second quarter of next year.
Lufthansa has promised to save around € 450 million since the agreement, which provides for a reduction in working hours and salary cuts.
