US IMPOSES ADDITIONAL TARIFFS ON CANADIAN ALUMINUM
US President Donald Trump angered Ottawa and some US business groups while reintroducing a 10 percent tariff on some aluminum products imported from Canada to protect the US industry from the increase in imports. A few weeks after a new continental trade agreement between the United States, Mexico and Canada entered into force, Canada pledged retaliation. "Section 232" has signed a presidential decree reinstating national security customs duties, Trump said in a speech at the Whirlpool Corp washing machine factory in Ohio. "It was absolutely necessary to defend our aluminum industry," Trump said. Canadian Deputy Prime Minister Chrystia Freeland said tariffs would further harm workers and the economies of the region severely affected by the coronavirus epidemic, and promised that Ottawa would retaliate as in 2018, when Trump first imposed criminal measures on steel and aluminum imported from Canada.İLGİLİ HABERLER
