As purchasing power has decreased, the number of
credit card users at neighborhood bazaars has increased. Almost every stallholder purchased a pos machine, and the transition from cash to card shopping was done. According to Mesut Engün, President of the Istanbul Chamber of Marketers, customers began to buy less fruits and vegetables, market customers flocked to bazaars in greater numbers due to increased pricing, and stallholders began to use POS machines to avoid losing both existing and new customers.
Mesut Engün stated "Since the end of last year, economic changes such as energy expenses and the increase in the currency rate have led to a quick increase in product prices, particularly in food. Because they buy high-tonnage products, market traders buy 85 percent of the fruits and vegetables sold in the marketplaces, and they pay more competitive rates. As a result of this condition, products on the bazaars are 20-25 percent less expensive than those on the market.
The market customers turned to bazaars as a result of these developments during this time period. The bazaar consumer base is made up of people with fixed incomes. In this class, people frequently use cards.
Credit card payment has grown popular in the industry in order to avoid losing both existing and new clients. Customers are also requesting for credit card as a payment method. People began purchasing less and less quantities of veggies and fruits. POS machines can now be found on almost every stall. We must also make use of this technology.”
According to data from the Interbank Card Center, the number of credit cards issued in January surpassed 86 million, a new high. The number of POS devices reached a new high of 1 million 751 thousand, the most since June 2021.
