Vocational High Schools Contributed to the National Economy Vocational high schools contributed to the national economy. In the first 8 months, vocational high schools brought 230 million liras to the economy. In the vocational high schools affiliated to the Ministry of National Education (MEB), the income provided in the first 8 months of 2020 increased by 20 percent compared to last year. The revolving fund application continues by the Ministry of National Education in order to increase the practical skills of students in vocational education. In this context, the revenue from production in 2019 increased 40 percent compared to 2018 and reached 400 million lira. Due to the pandemic that emerged in 2020, vocational high schools had a great responsibility. Most of the products requested in this process were produced by vocational high schools.   '' We Focused on Production of Demanded Products '' Ziya Selçuk, Minister of National Education, stated that the priority in the transformation of vocational education in the last 2 years is to strengthen the education-production-employment cycle. In this context, Selçuk mentioned the importance of increasing the production capacity in vocational high schools within the scope of revolving fund and said: “At the end of the steps we took, the revenue obtained from the productions made within this scope in 2019 increased by 40 percent compared to 2018. We were aiming for a larger increase in 2020, but we were negatively affected when the COVID-19 outbreak interrupted education in schools. This time, we focused on the production of products demanded in this process such as masks, disinfectants, face protection visors, mask machines and respirators by changing our production portfolio. Thus, we were able to increase our production capacity in this process. In the first 8 months of 2020, compared to the same period of 2019, the revenue from production increased by 20 percent, reaching 230 million lira.” Minister Selçuk reminded that the top 3 provinces that earn the most income from production are İstanbul, Ankara and İzmir respectively, and continued as follows: “During this period, the productions of vocational and technical education schools and institutions earned Istanbul 23 million 823 thousand TL, Ankara 17 million 480 thousand TL and İzmir 10 million 495 thousand TL income. We were trying to increase the production capacity in provinces where the sectors were heavily clustered. For example, in 2019, Istanbul was not in the top 3. Being the winner now is a really important achievement. The real production capacity of our provinces has started to emerge more and more. In this context, Istanbul Küçükçekmece Nahit Menteşe Vocational and Technical Anatolian High School came first with a production of 6 million 208 thousand TL in the production ranking on the basis of schools, while Kütahya Prof. Dr. Necmettin Erbakan Vocational and Technical Anatolian High School came second with a production of 5 million 620 thousand TL and Gaziantep Şahinbey Mehmet Rüştü Uzel Vocational and Technical Anatolian High School came third with a production of 3 million 26 thousand TL. '' Minister Selçuk thanked Mahmut Özer, Deputy Minister of National Education, General Directorate of Vocational and Technical Education, all provincial directors, school administrators, teachers and students who successfully carried out the process.
