What Are Altcoins And Should You Invest In Them?
Altcoin is the name given to any non-Bitcoin cryptocurrency.
These digital currencies were created after Bitcoin and often offer themselves as an alternative to top-notch cryptocurrency.
According to CoinMarketCap, altcoins make up about 40 percent of the total cryptocurrency market.
CoinFlip's director of operations, Ben Weiss, said, "There are more than 5,000 altcoins. And it is safe to say that most of them will never become something useful or produce significant returns in the long run. Of course, Ether is trying to bridge the gap between blockchain technology and real-world applications. and there are many promising altcoins like Chainlink that help facilitate new and exciting advances."
However, altcoins are incredibly risky investments. If you don't do enough research, your chances of losing may be higher than winning. Before you consider risking your hard-earned savings by investing in altcoins, make sure you understand the risks and know what you're getting into.
Should You Invest In Altcoins?
Cryptocurrencies have a certain appeal as an investment. Weiss says, "Altcoins offer much better opportunities as they have a high advantage in terms of percentage earnings. On the other hand, the risks are much higher."
He points to Dogecoin as an example. The cryptocurrency gained value in late January 2021 when people started buying it for no reason, causing altcoins to go viral. These kinds of investments can suddenly fall out of favor.
It's better to invest in something you believe in in the long run than to jump into something that is experiencing sudden popularity. Because when there is an inevitable retreat, you risk losing everything.
Weiss says, "If you are investing in long-term altcoins, you really have to believe in what you choose as a good investment, otherwise, you just gamble."
