Thousands of German credit card owners fall victim to hackers. Fraudsters gain access to shop abroad. As a precaution ; Commerzbank blocks hundreds of credit cards. But how big is the damage?
According to a newspaper report ; fraudsters hacked thousands of German credit cards to make purchases abroad. Commerzbank alone had hundreds of "Mastercards" blocked as a precaution ; the "Frankfurter Allgemeine Sonntagszeitung" reported. The customers of the banks concerned ; had recently received a letter informing them ; that their card ; was blocked;with immediate effect. "Your credit card has stopped working ;" the newspaper quoted from a letter from Commerzbank.
The cards had sales inquiries that indicated "improper use" ; the customer said. According to the report; around 600 cards ; were affected ; in Commerzbank alone ; and other credit institutions ; were also not spared. A Commerzbank manager told the ; "Frankfurter Allgemeine Sonntagszeitung" that fortunately ;no major damage had been; done that; "Our early warning systems worked."
"One has to be guilty"
Marsalek was the right-hand man of ex-Wirecard boss Markus Braun. The ex-manager was responsible for day-to-day operations.
