World Bank Rejected El Salvador's Request for Bitcoin!
In a statement made yesterday, El Salvador announced that it requested assistance from the World Bank for the implementation of the decision to use Bitcoin as legal currency.
The World Bank rejected El Salvador's
request for Bitcoin. El Salvador's Minister of Finance, Alejandro Zelaya, said in a statement yesterday that El Salvador requested assistance from the World Bank to implement the decision to use Bitcoin as a parallel official currency alongside the US Dollar.
However, an official of the World Bank gave a statement to Reuters via e-mail. In this statement, he stated that they could not help El Salvador's implementation of Bitcoin due to environmental factors and lack of transparency and continued his words as follows:
“Although the government of El Salvador has asked us for support on the issue of Bitcoin, it is not possible for the World Bank to provide this support considering the transparency and environmental factors. But our commitment to helping El Salvador remains, including monetary transparency and regulatory processes.”
IMF Doesn't Look Positive to This Decision
The government, which accepted Bitcoin as the national currency of El Salvador on June 9, may also receive a negative answer for the 1 billion dollar loan it wants to receive from the IMF. An
IMF official stated that the Bitcoin move could cause financial and legal problems before the negotiations of the parties.
