Xiaomi Decision by the US Government
The US government previously blacklisted Xiaomi under former President Donald Trump.
Xiaomi decision by the US government. The US government has decided to remove China-based technology giant Xiaomi from the black list.
Xiaomi was blacklisted by the US Department of Defense and the Treasury as a "Communist Chinese Military Corporation", and the company therefore sued the US government in early 2021. The US Department of Defense agreed that it would be appropriate to remove Xiaomi from the blacklist.
The inclusion of the company in the blacklist prevented US investors from investing in Chinese smartphone manufacturers.
Xiaomi officials did not make a statement regarding the issue. Xiaomi shares rallied 6.7 percent in Hong Kong.
Despite this decision, there are signs that
US President Joe Biden may continue to put pressure on China. This week, the ban on US companies from using telecommunications equipment of companies such as Huawei on the grounds that it "poses a threat to national security" was extended to a later date.
