According to the worldwide study South Africa has the cheapest beer
The worldwide study is based on the prices of beer in 330 ml bottles and focuses on the world's best-known brands so that prices can be compared globally.
"Since the survey took place in January this year, it focused on the prices of beer in bottles or cans. The prices of draft beers in restaurants and hotels were not compared, due to ongoing measures and closures, "says Luke Doyle from the Expensivity marketing team.
According to the survey, the most expensive beer in the world is sold in the Qatari capital Doha. The third here costs $ 11.26. Beer in Qatar climbed to this price limit two years ago, when the local government introduced a 100% tax on alcohol imports. The so-called sin tax also applies to tobacco products, gambling or other products that harm health or the environment.
In second place in the price comparison was the capital of Jordan,
Amman, followed by Beijing. However, the Chinese capital shows a significant difference between the average price of beer sold in supermarkets ($ 1.81) and offered in hotels ($ 13.61).
For the cheapest beer, you need to head to South Africa. In three cities in South Africa - Pretoria, Bloemfontein and Cape Town - the price of beer averages around $ 1.68 . So almost seven times cheaper than in Qatar. As for the prices of beer sold only in supermarkets, the cheapest are Italian ($ 0.58) and Polish shops ($ 0.62).
The study also mapped the average annual expenditure on beer and its consumption in each country. Both are the lowest in Haiti, with the capital Port-au-Prince drinking an average of four beers a year and spending about ten dollars on them.
At the other end of the scale, according to spending, is the cradle of German beer culture. Every German pays an average of almost two thousand dollars a year for beer and consumes 411. German consumption is the second highest in the world, surpassed only by the Czech one.
Revenues from the sale of beer in the
Czech Republic are growing year by year. Retail sales of beer and beer beverages reached a record 1 billion dollars in 2020 and thus exceeded all previous values.
"Retail sales grew by 10.5 percent year on year, which represents a total consumption of 871 million liters of beer and beer mixes, "says analyst Michal Elšík from the research agency Nielsen.
