A "big discount" statement came from EPGIS. Fesih Aktaş, President of the Energy Petrol Gas Supply Stations Employers' Union (EPGIS), drew attention to the fact that the statements regarding the payment of the price hike from the SCT were reported as a big discount. Aktaş said, "These news are trying to mislead the consumers. We regularly share the changes that will affect the pump price with our citizens.” EPGIS President Aktaş, in his written statement, stated that in order to reflect the possible discounts in fuel prices, the prices must first be reduced to the price of the excise mobile system and SCT. Stating that EPGIS's explanations regarding the coverage rate of the excise tax on fuel are reported as big discounts, Aktaş said, “With these news, consumers are trying to be misled. We regularly share the changes that will affect the pump price. With this mechanism, the increase in prices is deducted from the amount of SCT in the actual sales price, and the pump selling price is kept constant.” Aktaş also emphasized that they regularly shared the changes in pump sales prices during periods when the mobile system was not in use, and said, “When the prices started to rise and the system was activated, the amount of the fixed sales prices covered by the SCT and the amount of price decrease in the case of a price decrease we are announcing to our citizens that the discounts will be reflected in the pump prices.” Aktaş pointed out that the fuel prices in Turkey are formed by adding the sales price and tax amounts determined by the refineries in direct proportion to the changes in the domestic dollar exchange rate, provided that they are within the scope of the formula determined by the relevant regulatory board, Aktaş said: “We, as one of the unions of the dealers operating in the fuel sector, announce the price changes notified by the refineries to our dealers and citizens. In other words, we do not set the prices. The mobile system is still in use for the prices. As of the end of January, in gasoline sales 0.27 TL per liter is covered by the SCT, in diesel fuel 0.25 TL and in autogas, the amount of 0.70 TL. In case of discounts in product prices, the discount amounts will be used to replace this tax. Then, if the discounts continue, there will be a discount in the sales prices of the said amounts.”
