Interest Rate Statement by Minister of Agriculture and Forestry Vahit Kirişci

Minister of Agriculture and Forestry Vahit Kirişci noted that Ziraat Bank provides interest-free loans to farmers. "In other words, in a country with 84 percent inflation today, we provide zero-interest loans to our producers. The limit for this was 100 thousand TL. Now we have increased this 100 thousand TL limit to 200 thousand TL with this latest Presidential decree."

Minister of Agriculture and Forestry Vahit Kirişci made evaluations on the agricultural sector at the Reliable Product Summit and Feed the Future award ceremony. Referring to the issue of interest, Kirişçi said, "As a country that has shown itself in many international issues in the recent period, especially the grain corridor and the exchange of prisoners, we need to continue on our way with a new vision in this new century. Our citizens will no longer determine their own production. With an application that brings a production planning to the agenda with our guidance, our producers will be producing their own production by using the application of a Ministry that has decided what, where and how much they can produce. Hopefully, one of these days, our Ziraat Bank will present farmers with a debit card in a format that they can use only for the purchase of diesel oil and fertilizer. Ziraat Bank provides interest-free loans to our farmers. In other words, in a country with 84 percent inflation today, we provide zero-interest loans to our producers. We will offer our producers an arrangement in which 100 thousand TL of this 200 thousand TL limit will be used only in diesel oil and fertilizer by loading it on the card."
