Meral Akşener: "This Freak System would have been settled"
"Of course I respect Mr. Kılıçdaroğlu's attitude, but look, today we are discussing its inclusion in the Constitution, we are discussing a fight again within the framework of the headscarf," said Good Party leader Meral Akşener, adding, "We know Mr. Kılıçdaroğlu's attitude on the headscarf issue. But at this point, I don't think it was necessary."
IYI Party President Meral Akşener evaluated the agenda on Halk TV live broadcast. Answering the question "What would have happened if it had not been established?", Akşener said,
"This freak system would have been settled. There wouldn't have been any talk that the presidential system with parties could be changed. There would have been no hope. If we had not participated in that election (2018), probably the CHP and other political parties would have participated alone. The parliamentary arithmetic would have been completely different."
Meral Akşener, who was asked about her evaluations on Republican People's Party Chairman Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu's proposal for a legal regulation on the headscarf, reminded that she started her political career in DYP and made the following statements:
"Therefore, I stood against the wrong things about those processes. We paid many prices ourselves. Within this framework, I have a great respect for the journey of halalization. But as I said, I have to remind you of other things. The mayor of Rize in this country said during the opening process, 'Don't make an opening for nothing, brother. There is no need for democratic processes. Let us, the men of the Black Sea region, take a Kurdish woman as a second wife every time, let's solve this issue.' In those days I tried to bring down the firmament, as the only person. And nothing happened to this friend. Then something more interesting happened.
The deputy provincial chairman of Samsun said, 'A woman with her head uncovered is like a house without curtains. She is either for rent or for sale.' I jumped at this too. Who will make peace with them? Ataturk's mother was spoken unspeakable words. Who will come to terms with this? I am reminding them of this. As for the headscarf. The headscarf issue has been resolved. Now all I care about is that instead of reopening closed wounds, we have to look at the bleeding wounds. Of course I respect Mr. Kılıçdaroğlu's attitude, but look, today we are discussing its inclusion in the Constitution, we are discussing another fight within the framework of the headscarf. We know Mr. Kılıçdaroğlu's stance on the headscarf issue. But at this point, I don't think it was necessary."
