Treasury and Finance Minister Nureddin Nebati said, "The increase in the minimum wage is determined according to next year's inflation targets. Since inflation was above our targets this year, we updated it again in July. So far, minimum wage earners have not been crushed by inflation and there will be an increase in the same way this year. The increase in the minimum wage will be above inflation."
Responding to questions on CNNTÜRK television channel, Minister Nebati made the following assessment:
"It is the problem of the whole world. Inflation in the US is constantly under discussion. The rise in global commodity prices is shown as the reason for this increase. In the pandemic, workplaces were closed, production stopped, health systems almost collapsed in many places. People have lost their foresight for a year ahead. We were predicting that Turkey and the world would normalize as of May. On February 21, the war started. The war, which was said to last 3 days, has now encircled Europe.
One of the biggest causes of inflation is the increase in exchange rates. We are not pressing the brakes hard on inflation, first the rate of increase should decrease so that we have reached these points. In December, we will see a decline in inflation due to the base effect. There has been a decline in the rate of increase in inflation for the last few months. With the easing of prices in the world, we will see a gradual decrease in inflation without pressing the brake hard, without leaving people unemployed.
A change in food inflation affects many segments of society. Everyone feels food inflation. The group affected by inflation is especially the low-income people. Our President has a stance like this: We are structuring in such a way that the low-income and fixed-income groups are minimized from all kinds of difficulties.
Let me say something very ambitious about this. Last year, we said not to let the Ministry of Treasury and Finance into the field. Last year, only 120 thousand audits were conducted. This year, as of today, it is 550 thousand. We have set a target of 1 million by the end of the year. In these works, there may be those who want to make a profit above the maximum benefit. We are trying to prevent our citizens from being harmed here. We want to show the power of the public.
We are working on a package for tradesmen. We are doing our technical work. The details will be discussed in the Cabinet. It is not enough that the registry amnesty has been introduced. The banks unofficially see the amnesty when they should not and act accordingly. The banking sector will also be obliged to implement the decision taken through the Parliament.''
