"Flagship" Novo Nordisk
One reason - but there are others, says Nielsen, a lot of defensive stocks on the stock exchanges, for example - and a real "star": "Here in Denmark we have a flagship product, that is Novo Nordisk. They manufacture diabetes drugs. If theirs Price rises just a little, that quickly brings the entire market up in Copenhagen. " It is very unusual for such a large company to exist in such a small economy.
In addition, other companies appear small, even if they are quite large by Danish standards and contribute to the stock market success, according to Nielsen. "In 2020 we see three megatrends here: We have the 'green' stocks, for example from Vestas. They build wind turbines and have developed very well; we have already mentioned health; the technology sector is still missing."
"Our robustness is remarkable"
Nielsen sounds satisfied and it is. The Danish way through the corona crisis with quick and tough countermeasures, many of which have been lifted, has paid off in his eyes. Unlike the lockdown-free Sweden, whose economy has suffered more than the Danish, which is now well positioned.
"The companies will continue to do very well," Nielsen is certain. Whether this is also reflected in the stock market is another story. "But look at the past five years: The Danish market - plus 60 percent, the German plus 30. Our robustness is quite remarkable."
