In a statement made by the ministry, it was noted that the United States, in coordination with its allies and partners, sanctioned the "architects" of the attack on Ukraine.
It was stated that the sanctions decisions imposed on Russia had unprecedented diplomatic and economic costs, and further isolated Russia from the financial system and the international community.
The assessment included the phrases, "President Putin and Minister Lavrov are directly responsible for Russia's unreasonable and unlawful invasion of Ukraine, a democratic sovereign state."
The statement also included that it is "extremely rare" for the Treasury to sanction a head of state, adding that Putin joined a small group that included "despots" such as Kim Jong Un, Alexander Lukashenko, and Bashar Assad.
In the statement, it was reported that 11 members of the Russian Security Council were added to the sanctions list, as well as Putin and Lavrov.
In the statement of the ministry, it was stated that among the names to be sanctioned were Federation Council President Valentina Matviyenko, Foreign Intelligence Agency Director Sergei Naryshkin, Security Council Secretary Nikolay Patrushev, Interior Minister Vladimir Kolokoltsev and Federal Security Service Director Alexander Bortnikov.
In the statement, it was stated that the US Department of State will impose sanctions on Russian Defense Minister Sergey Shoigu and Russian Chief of General Staff Valeriy Gerasimov, and it was noted that the names included in the sanctions list will be blocked in the USA or all assets owned or controlled by US persons.
US Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen, whose views were included in the statement, stated that the US continues to impose costs on Putin for the brutal and unprovoked attacks on the Ukrainian people.
Emphasizing that the United States has united with its international allies to ensure that Russia pays a "serious" economic and diplomatic price for its attack on Ukraine, Yellen said, "We are prepared, if necessary, to impose more costs on Russia for its appalling behavior on the world stage." made its assessment.
The EU also decided to impose sanctions on Putin and Lavrov, and it was stated that the assets of the two leaders would also be frozen.
