Acting on US President Joe Biden's decision to suspend normal trade relations with this country after Russia's attacks on Ukraine, Congress took its first step. The process started when the House of Representatives passed a bill that approved the suspension of normal trade relations between the United States and Russia and Belarus. While 424 deputies voted "yes" on the bill, 8 deputies, all Republicans, voted "no".
The bill is expected to be brought to the agenda in the Senate in a short time and to be accepted there as well. The bill will be finalized with the signature of US President Biden and will allow the US to impose much higher customs duties on these two countries, ban the export and import of many products, and significantly complicate all commercial activities between the US and these countries.
Biden made statements stating that Russia has now been removed from the list of "most privileged countries”.
