TURKSTAT Happiness Survey: Those Who Did Not Finish a School Are Happier!
TURKSTAT happiness survey questionnaire has been concluded. According to the results, those who did not finish a school are happier than those who did.
The 2020 results of the life satisfaction survey, which has been conducted annually for 17 years by the Turkish Statistical Institute (
TURKSTAT), has been announced. The survey is conducted to measure individuals' general perception of happiness, social value judgments, general satisfaction in basic life areas and satisfaction with public services, and to monitor the change in satisfaction levels over time.
According to the 2020 data announced by
TURKSTAT, women were happier than men, while those who did not graduate from a school were happier than those who did. It was also understood that 7 out of 10 people in Turkey were hopeful about their future.
Details of the research were as follows:
The proportion of individuals aged 18 and over who declared that they are happy in Turkey was 52.4 percent in 2019 and 48.2 percent in 2020. The rate of individuals who declared that they were unhappy was 13.1 percent in 2019, and 14.5 percent in 2020.
The proportion of men who declared that they were happy was 47.6 percent in 2019 and 43.2 percent in 2020. For women, this rate was 57.0 percent in 2019 and 53.1 percent in 2020.
Married People Happier Than Unmarried
According to the research, the proportion of married individuals who stated that they were happy was 51.7 percent in 2020, while this rate was 41.3 percent for those who were not married. When the happiness level of the married is examined by gender; 46.7 percent of married men and 56.8 percent of married women were happy.
Happiest Age Group Ages 65 and Over
When looking at the level of happiness according to age groups; The age group of 65 and over was the age group with the highest rate of happiness with 58.5 percent in 2019 and 57.7 percent in 2020. The lowest happiness rate was in the 55-64 age group with 48.7 percent in 2019, while it was observed in the 35-44 age group with 45.4 percent in 2020.
Considering the level of happiness according to the education level; In 2020, the highest happiness rate was seen in those who did not finish a school with 54.4 percent. This respectively; It was followed by primary school graduates with 50.3 percent, high school and equivalent school graduates with 46.8 percent, higher education graduates with 46.1 percent and primary or secondary school graduates with 44.2 percent.
When looking at the people who are the source of happiness of the individuals; While the rate of those who stated that their families make them the happiest was 69.7 percent in 2020; Children followed it with 15.0 percent, herself with 4.2 percent, parents with 3.6 percent, spouses with 3.5 percent and grandchildren with 2.2 percent.
Looking at the values that are the source of happiness for individuals; While the rate of those who stated that being healthy made them happy the most was 70.9 percent in 2020; Love followed with 12.8 percent, success with 8.8 percent, money with 4.6 percent and work with 2.3 percent.
Considering the satisfaction levels of public services; In 2020, the rate of those who declared that they were satisfied with public order services was 77.4 percent, followed by satisfaction from transportation and health services with 72.1 percent, Social Security Institution with 63.9 percent, legal services with 60.4 percent and education services with 56.2 percent. .
The rate of individuals who declared that they were hopeful for their own future was 69.6 percent in 2020. While the rate of men who were hopeful about their own future was 68.5 percent, this rate was 70.7 percent for women.
