Turkish Statistical Institute (TURKSTAT) has published the labor force statistics. According to TURKSTAT data, the number of unemployed people aged 15 and over across Turkey decreased by 265 thousand people in May 2021 compared to the previous month and became 4 million 237 thousand people. The
Unemployment rate decreased by 0.6 points and came in at 13.2 percent.
In May, non-agricultural unemployment decreased by 1 point compared to the previous month and became 15.1 percent.
Idle Labor Force Reached 27.2 Percent
The rate of idle labor force, which consists of time-related underemployment, potential labor force and the unemployed, decreased by 0.2 points in May 2021 compared to the previous month and was recorded as 27.2 percent.
While the combined rate of time-related underemployment and the unemployed was 19.3 percent, the combined rate of potential workforce and unemployed was 21.7 percent.
Unemployment rate for the young population covering the 15-24 age group decreased by 2 percentage points compared to the previous month and became 24 percent, while the employment rate increased by 0.1 percentage points to 31.9 percent.
The labor force participation rate in this age group decreased by 1.1 points compared to the previous month and came to 41.9 percent.
Labor Force Participation Rate was 50.5 Percent
The number of people employed decreased by 216 thousand people in May 2021 compared to the previous month and was recorded as 27 million 844 thousand people, while the employment rate was recorded as 43.8 percent with a decrease of 0.4 points.
In May 2021, the workforce decreased by 481 thousand people compared to the previous month and became 32 million 81 thousand people, while the labor force participation rate decreased by 0.8 points to 50.5 percent.
