US Arms Aid to Ukraine

The US Department of Defense announced that Ukraine will receive an additional $725 million in arms and ammunition aid, including High Speed Anti-Radiation Missiles (HARM), to be provided from the US military inventory.

"The Department of Defense announced that the president has authorized the withdrawal of up to $725 million in weapons and equipment from the military's inventory to meet Ukraine's critical security and defense needs," the Pentagon said in a written statement. In the statement, which stated that this is the 23rd arms aid package given to Ukraine from the US military inventory since August 2021, the following information was included about the new package: "This new security assistance package includes: "This new security assistance package includes: additional ammunition for High Mobility Artillery Rocket Systems (HIMARS); 23,000 155 mm artillery shells; 500 precision-guided 155 mm artillery shells; 5,000 155 mm Remotely Operated Armor Penetrating Mine (RAAM) Systems; 5,000 anti-tank weapons; High Velocity Anti-Radiation Missiles (HARM); more than 200 High Mobility Multipurpose Wheeled Vehicles (HMMWV); small arms and more than 2 million small arms ammunition and medical supplies." The Pentagon's announcement follows Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin's meeting this week at the Ukraine Defense Contact Group in Brussels, Belgium, which brought together defense ministers from nearly 50 countries and at which participating countries committed to providing additional security assistance. At that meeting, Germany delivered the first of four IRIS-T air defense systems to Ukraine. Germany also announced the delivery of additional MARS rocket systems and howitzers. Spain announced that it would provide Ukraine with four HAWK missile launchers for air defense purposes. Ukraine is seeking advanced air defense systems from Europe and the United States, but the recently announced US aid could take weeks to arrive. At a press conference following the NATO Defense Ministers Meeting, Austin responded to the question of when new air defense systems would be sent to Ukraine with the following statements: "The new systems we will provide are to meet urgent needs. We are also providing systems that will take longer to produce. Some systems may take weeks and months, others may take years. For example, you heard recently that we will provide Ukraine with 18 additional HIMARS. We have purchased them, but it will take several years to produce and deliver them. But 4 HIMARS systems are available for immediate delivery." Follow Global Economic Developments on Social Media! Click here to follow Ieconomy official Facebook account!
